Questions We Get a Lot
Load rating per tier is listed on each unit — read it before you stack. Concentrated loads at the center of a span stress the shelf differently than distributed loads spread across the full width. Match your heaviest items to the tier with the highest rated capacity, typically the bottom shelf.
Most freestanding units in this range are designed to stand without wall anchoring under normal load distribution. If you are stacking heavy items high or working in a space with uneven floors, anchoring adds a margin of safety. Check the assembly instructions included with your unit for the manufacturer's guidance.
Frame gauge determines how much the uprights flex under load and how well the unit resists racking over time. Thinner gauge steel deforms under repeated heavy use; the units here use heavier-gauge frames built for the load ratings they advertise. If a competitor's shelf lists no gauge, that is the answer.
Garage Citadel covers returns within 30 days of delivery — see the Return Policy for the full process. If a unit arrives with freight damage, document it before assembly and contact us through the store. We ship to the Continental U.S.; Alaska and Hawaii are excluded from free shipping.
About Our Garage Shelves
Garage shelving exists to solve one problem: floor space lost to stacking. Boxes on boxes, bins without labels, tools you cannot find because they are buried. A proper shelving system moves that inventory vertical, puts weight where the structure can hold it, and keeps the floor clear for work. The buyer who gets this right thinks in three numbers before anything else: load rating per tier, overall unit height relative to ceiling clearance, and shelf depth relative to what is being stored. A unit rated for light bins fails under motor oil and hardware. A shallow shelf wastes wall space when you are storing deep containers. Steel frame with powder-coat finish is the standard for garage environments because it tolerates humidity, temperature swings, and the kind of casual abuse a working garage delivers. Adjustable tier spacing matters more than most buyers expect — your storage mix will change, and the shelf that cannot adapt forces a replacement. Buy for the garage you are building, not just the one you have today.
